GIAASPORTS.org — The GIAA acknowledges the widespread and unprecedented impact caused by Hurricane Helene. We have closely assessed the situation and its effects on our upcoming sporting events. Our top priority remains the safety and well-being of all participants and attendees.
We will reschedule certain events to allow recovery and ensure that facilities are fully operational. We understand the challenges many are facing and want to stress that there is no pressure to proceed with events that do not align with the best interests of everyone involved. We stand ready to support our communities during this difficult time.
While many schools were spared from major issues, some have been significantly affected. As such, the following adjustments will be made:
Volleyball Post-Season: The final day to complete region play is now Tuesday, October 8. Final rankings, originally scheduled for release on October 2, will now be announced by Wednesday, October 9, at 12:00 p.m. Rounds 1 and 2, initially set for October 5, will now take place on Saturday, October 12, with the top four seeds hosting the first round. The Semi-Finals and Finals will occur on Tuesday, October 15, at The Heritage School in Newnan, beginning at 9:00 a.m. The All-Star Game scheduled for Saturday, October 19, will proceed as planned. View the updated brackets here.
Softball Post-Season: There will be no significant changes. The State Championship tournament remains scheduled for October 17-19, 2024, in Columbus.
Cross Country State Championship: The event, scheduled for Saturday, October 26, will occur as planned.
Football Playoffs: Due to scheduling challenges from missed games, the regular season will be extended by one week. Consequently, the number of playoff teams will be reduced from 10 to 8 per classification. The first round of playoffs will now begin on November 8, 2024. View the updated brackets here.
These changes will apply only to the 2024-2025 school year.
